This questionnaire looks at three motives that shape how people behave at work: the wish to achieve, the wish to connect with others, and the wish to have influence. Everyone has all three; what differs is the balance between them. Your profile is scored instantly on this page and will be used in the workshop to help you understand what energises you, what drains you, and how you tend to work with others.
It takes about 12 to 15 minutes. Nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere; your results appear only on your screen, so please print or save them at the end and bring them to the workshop.
How to read the scores. Each scale runs from 15 to 75. The dashed line marks the mid-point (45): a score above it means you agreed with most of the statements on that scale. The bands compare you with the scale mid-point, not with other people, so the most useful information is usually the rank order of your three motives and the size of the gaps between them. Motives within about five points of each other are best treated as roughly equal.
This is a self-report tool for reflection and discussion, not a validated psychometric assessment, and it should not be used for selection or other decisions about individuals. It is based on the theory of needs developed by David C. McClelland; the statements, scoring and feedback are original to Ad Astra Human Performance and are not reproduced from any published or commercial instrument.
